Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is making a bold move to revolutionize its UK road freight operations by replacing its vehicle fleet with over 220 bio-fuel and electric HGVs. Set to be fully operational by April 2024, this new fleet is a major step in JLR\u2019s strategy to significantly cut down on CO2e emissions, aiming to reduce them by 8,433 tonnes annually. This ambitious initiative is equivalent to the environmental impact of planting 350,000 trees.<\/p>
This transition is a part of JLR\u2019s commitment under the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which includes a plan to reduce scope 1 and 2 emissions by 46% and scope 3 emissions by 54% by 2030. The shift not only aligns with their \u2018Reimagine\u2019 strategy but also showcases JLR\u2019s dedication to sustainable practices.<\/p>
Operating in partnership with DHL, this shift will see JLR\u2019s goods transported between manufacturing centers, suppliers, and retailers with a minimum of 85% CO2e savings per HGV. The switch to a combination of battery power, Bio-CNG, and Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) powered HGVs marks a significant advancement in sustainable logistics. Additionally, the use of larger 15.6-meter trailers, up from the current 13.6 meters, will cut weekly travel by over 3,500 miles, further reducing CO2e emissions by 254 tonnes a year.<\/p>
